Where Were You?
When I was just a little boy,
Where were you?
Why weren't you there...
To hold and comfort me,
Like mothers are supposed to?
Why were you always gone?
Why did you leave us all alone?
Why did you leave when I needed you?
When I was lonely and cried,
Where were you?
When I had nothing but pain inside,
Where were you?
That time I almost died,
Where were you?!
When I needed you...
Where were you?
Why weren't you there,
To tell me everything would be alright?
Why was the only emotion we ever heard,
The sound of a fight?
What you said when they came to take me away,
"Don't worry baby",
"I'll come get you tonight",
I should have known that you lied!
When I was lonely and cried,
Where were you?
When I had nothing but pain inside,
Where were you?
That night I almost died!
Where were you?!
When I needed you...
Where were you?
Why didn't you read to me?
Why didn't you sing softly?
I've learned since then,
That this is how things should be,
And even though you're not aware,
After all this time I still care,
Even though you were not there,
When I needed you!
When I walked down the aisle,
Where were you?
When I saw my bride's eyes,
Where were you?
When my daughter was born,
Where were you?
So much missed,
So much lost
That's because you were never there,
When I needed you...

she wandered her quiet
life in seclusion, hidden like
a recluse in the soft
darkness of lighted caves
but he found her
in his flight from
the noise and distractions
that trapped him like
a bird in a net
she released him
and like a hermit
drawn from her prayers,
she followed him as
he lead her in a
waltz of wanting
and her coming out
is his coming in
as they discover
a new dance of
devotion

Ramblings
For everything that someone else has gone through
I'm sure that something "worse" has happened to you
I bet you'd take the time to care
But it might just be too much to do
And I know if you slit your wrists
You'd only do it to be missed
But the only someone who would
Would be the someone who's ass you kissed
I wish you'd hear what I have to say
But you've never listened anyway

About, and for, my mother, who I have not seen in 28 years.
The memories are still as fresh as yesterday.
So is the pain.
You can, and should, forgive.
You should never, and can never, forget.
Because I learned something..you see, thanks to her, my life has been hard, and I had to learn to stick up for myself early, to fight the world one on one. It made me strong. It made me believe. It made me who I am.
So you see? Even bad choices turn out alright.
But that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. Everyday.
