Why do we dream? Think about it for a moment.
It's an interesting question, one with many answers. Science says that we dream to help the mind rest, or, as some think, dreams happen all the time, we simply don't notice them when we are awake. The "New Age" theorists say that dreams are our minds coming to grips with everyday problems, dreams are us trying to solve those problems. Of course, dreams are also the things we want in and for life, where we want to go, things we want to have, who we want to be.
In my mind, dreams are our salvation.
Without dreams, no-one would want to make the world better, there would be no science, no history, no books, no equality, no fight for equality. There would be no adventure, no thrill in life. There would be no reason to LIVE.
Without dreams, life has no purpose.
Without dreams, there would be no MUSIC.
I dream of, and in, music. Music is who I am. I constantly have music flowing through my mind, I fall asleep to it, I wake up to it. Music is the central facet of my existence, because it is through music that I am able to be normal, to be free. No matter how you feel, there is a song, there is MUSIC to help express the mood. We all have our favorite songs to go along with our favorite things. At the end of the day, we can tell each other the songs we heard, even though we often don't remember the people we saw.
Music is what brings us together as a people, as a world. Music binds us together in ways that are hard to explain, and it keeps us together all the days we live, we even use it to celebrate, and to remember, when we die.
Every culture has it's own kind of music, and even though much of what we hear offends someone, somewhere, ALL music has it's place. Music makes us feel. It evokes pain, love, loss, sorrow, shame, regret, horror, and at times hate. It makes us laugh, it makes us cry.
It makes us BELIEVE.
Through music, we see the story of our lives, others lives, we see our history. Music is who we ARE. It is an undeniable fact.
I dream of music. I dream of hearing that music aloud. I dream of that music being heard by millions upon millions upon millions of people, all over the world. I dream of my words reaching out and touching, changing, the lives of those people.
I dream of music, because through it, my words come to LIFE.
We all have our dreams. Mine are made real, every day.
Are yours?
What do YOU dream?

i have searched maps, road signs,
songs, hearts. i have opened my eyes
and my hands to the rain, fairytales
singing in my ears. i have closed my eyes
and let my nightmares and demons
find me, i have
screamed on the insides, heart
barely beating. i have dreamed
of my own destruction, whispered
into the silence, prayed for the answer -

could i ask you for one last favor?
when you're sad, remember the way
i would hug you. when you're laughing,
remember that my laughter doesn't sound
the same without yours. when you're lonely,
remember that i tried to fill your empty spaces. remember
that i'd fall for you if it saved you
